Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life

Life coaching really has a strong basis in the idea that you have control over your thoughts.

I like to feel that I am making a difference in my own life. It is not only important to me but it is also very empowering. One way that I can do this is by harnessing the power of my own thoughts.

Take a moment to think about your thoughts. What is it that moves through your mind throughout the day? Are you able to sit back and listen? This can be an extremely valuable exercise although it may be harder than you expect.

The separation between you and your thoughts is a foundation to any personal expansion. It is a position from which you can make changes. It is the acknowledgement that thoughts are not set but can be used to focus your reality in a direction that is right for you.

Your thoughts are formed through the lens of beliefs that you have. Noticing your thoughts can give you insight into what your beliefs are and where they came from. This is how you notice what is limiting your life. Once you have this insight you can ask yourself if you are being well served by what you believe and by the way you think?

You can use this relationship with your thoughts to make them work for you, to create experiences in life that bring you fulfillment and joy. By noticing what you think about yourself, about others and the world you live in, you can change the impact of your thoughts.

You can change your view and experiences by changing your thoughts giving you a sunnier outlook and one that brings you benefits instead of holding you back. Changing your thoughts changes your feelings and changing your feelings changes your life.

Step one is to notice what you think about yourself. You are the person you spend the most time with and are getting the most messages from. The more beautiful thoughts you have about yourself the lighter you will feel. You can make a difference by doing a flip. Anytime you notice a thought that is bringing you down just flip it. It goes a little something like this…

You think, “I am so stupid for forgetting loosing my keys.”
You notice that you thought this and it didn’t make you feel good.
You flip to thinking, “I got a lot done in my day today, if I take some time out for relaxation I’m sure my keys will turn up.”

Step two is noticing what you think about others. When you think negatively about others or let their thoughts make up your mind, you reduce your own strength. If you are able to change your thoughts about others you can reduce any judgment towards them. Since judgment of your self and others is connected, at the same time you can reduce judgment about yourself bringing more peace into your being.

You think, “That person is so inconsiderate, they are standing right in the way of the stairs.”
You notice that you were judging another person and that it also made you feel upset.”
You flip to thinking, “Maybe that person is so tired they just needed to stop, I wonder if I could help them?”

If the flip makes you feel better, you are improving your life. In time, it will be natural to think positive thoughts and you will notice that you can easily flip or that you don’t even have to anymore.

You can transform your life by changing your thoughts about your childhood, about your needs, or about your current situation. Once you have achieved some mastery you will feel empowered.
