Knowing Your Truth, Knowing Your Self

Just hearing the words “your truth” gives me a sense of freedom and peace. It conjures up a feeling of leading with an open heart and a sense that I do not have to hide.

In revealing myself I am honouring who I am and therefore honouring the people around me. Trusting others with your inner treasures demonstrates your faith in them.

I have however asked someone to tell me they’re truth and received a much different reaction. They thought I was saying that they were lying and in a sense maybe I was. Sometimes people have reasons to keep the truth to themselves. They may or may not do this purposefully.

When you do not speak what you believe, your message is hidden. You may be speaking what is in your consciousness but if this is not the same as what is in your heart there is a discrepancy that leaves a feeling of doubt and mistrust.

You could be saying what you have learned from the external world to be true but if it does not resonate with your soul then you are sending out mixed messages. If you are not telling the truth to yourself you cannot tell it to other people. If you are telling the truth to yourself but keeping it from others then you are not being authentic.

You can become so skilled at covering up what you believe to be true and you may do this for a number of very logical reasons. You may have felt hurt when you spoke from your heart in the past, and you may be rooted in the idea that the more compassionate thing to do is keep your ideas to yourself. You may also be afraid of feelings.

Being heard can be very raw and being unsure of someone’s emotional response can also be very uncomfortable when you don’t know the consequence. But what are you giving up?

You are giving up your chance to be heard and your chance to support your own value. You are giving up a connection that is felt when someone has the opportunity to have they’re own thoughts or feelings about your truth. It can be empowering to trust that every other person has the strength within to be open and accepting. It can feel very empowering to allow others the right to decide their own reaction to what you have to say.

You might cover up the truth because you are afraid, because you don’t want to do what is wrong by a standard that you have learned. You may not even know what your heart is expressing because you have not practiced this authenticity in so long.

The more of your own truth that you cover up the harder it becomes to communicate your truth or even know what it is. It can become lost to you.

As a compassionate being you separate your self from others by covering up your truth, and diminish their power to choose their own feelings. It is important to note that each person has their own truth and that acceptance of this means allowing for each person to be different.

If you are feeling like your connections to yourself and to others are closed, if you are feeling fear in your life or if you are seeking approval externally you might like to try bringing in awareness. Be mindful about what you are saying to yourself and others. Notice the little white lies and how they silence your truth.

Everybody longs to be seen and heard for who they are. As you grow in awareness of your thoughts you can share in bringing forward inner truth.

Please feel welcome to begin a conversation or leave your observations about your truth or about living inside out.
