Who’s first, what’s fair and who’s cheating?

I must admit that I was a bit surprised that the Monopoly game only lasted 5 minutes before my kids started arguing over the rules and roles of the game. It sure didn’t sound like much fun.

Who’s first, what’s fair and who’s cheating? These issues seem to be right at the forefront when they get into playing competitive games. So even though we had created open space in the weekend to hang out and play games things were not really playing out the way I hoped.

I was thinking hard about what kind of teachable moment I could turn this into when I heard them changing the rules to work as a team. They actually thought about how they wanted to feel playing together and changed the whole game around so that it worked out for all of them. Now we’re talking fun for the whole family.
