Hindsight is Twenty Twenty
Looking back on life without judgment allows you to see how events flow from one to another. There is a sense of assurance knowing that with continuing to live each moment a whole life will evolve. Sometimes you can see a relationship among experiences and other times they seem unrelated. You will still arrive at today.
The saying, “hindsight is twenty, twenty” has come up again and again in my life. I often viewed it through the lens of regret; thinking that if I had done something differently there might have been a better outcome. This belief insinuates that I am not all that I need to be, that I am missing something. It is also filled with the judgment that there is a better place for me to be right now.
As I look back, I can’t say that every step was clear or that I can even see the relevance of every choice I made but I can see where my actions have led me and I appreciate noticing the clarity. What I am able to see through hindsight influences the way I live my life in the present, how I choose and create.
Being open to the way that different people, different experiences and even seeming mistakes lead you can be refreshing and bring you such deep learning. You are presented with the same messages many times in life. It can often take a while to see them and even longer to integrate them. The way you recognize ideas can be intriguing and this awareness can be used to live differently.
Life is a journey. Your journey can be the experiences that you feel happen to you or they can be experiences that you feel you are creating. Opportunities lead you from one moment to the next, and the next, and eventually make up your life.
There are also feelings that come with the experiences. You can feel in or out of alignment with your life. Being out of line might feel like being overwhelmed or confused. It may be having a sense of your values but not following them the way you intended to. The contradiction shows you when your actions don’t match your desires. This may present itself as frustration with life, a lack of time and energy, feeling trapped, or disillusioned.
I am aware of many times in my life that I was confused, desperately looking for advice, hoping that an answer would present itself. Starting when I was young I often felt like I needed to follow someone else’s point of view even though doing that didn’t make sense to me. I let myself think that I just didn’t understand or that they knew better instead of feeling like I might hold the answers. The confusion that led to a feeling of depression was showing me that I was out of alignment and that I needed to seek my own truth.
To live by your own truth means understanding your worthiness, and embracing your value as being equitable to that of every other being on the planet. Internalizing this gives you a certainty that your experiences and desires are valid. You are born whole and with every potential although circumstances in life do not always allow for you to hold onto that. Your intuition and beliefs are affected, often to a point where you may no longer feel the permission to live your own life. You can listen to your inner knowing, your inner self and live from there to bring forth freedom and peacefulness.
I am lit up when I hear of people living their lives in alignment. Put on your twenty twenty vision glasses and look back at times when you felt really certain and times you felt confused. As you recognize these moments affirm what is right for you and make it a priority in your life.
