Abby has found that, just as there is no single best approach to education for every child, the same holds true for parenting. For her, it is about observing and parenting each of her children based on his individual needs. She also tries to rely on her own instincts and, as much as possible, to ignore outside voices that can be oppressive. She trusts that her children—and all children—want to be happy, healthy, and learn, and believes that a lack of trust in children in general is one of the biggest crimes the adult world commits against them.

Abby Karos is the mother of two children and the co-founder of Compass Center for Self-Directed Learning. She has learned and taught in many settings and brings her passion for learning to many young people, including her own.
